Stopping Youth Tobacco Sales

March 31, 2023

Hello, my name is Macey Guinn, and I am a YAHL member from Kellyville High School. YAHL stands for Youth Action for Health Leadership. This was my first year of being in the YAHL program, and I am one of the first leadership team members. I started YAHL through my AG teacher. He said it would be a great thing for me to do and would look good for college. My topic is the CounterAct Tobacco campaign which helps stop the spread of tobacco use in youth.

The policy of CounterAct Tobacco works to prevent youth tobacco use in Oklahoma. If we don’t have a strong policy, everything will just fall to pieces. The comprehensive licensing will help stop the sale of tobacco use to youth from gas stations. It is important to have strong polices so that youth can’t buy tobacco products.

I care about the CounterAct Tobacco campaign because I have lost a lot of my family to tobacco. This has led me to choose healthy behaviors, which the CounterAct Tobacco campaign is about. I have become involved in the CounterAct Tobacco campaign by presenting a group project to the Creek County Community Partnership and spreading awareness of the harmful effects of tobacco and vaping products.

I care about my community, school and finding ways to stop youth from getting tobacco from the gas station and other places. This is why working on the CounterAct Tobacco campaign is important to me and my community.
